Chollas Creek's cumulative size is 30 linear miles (two major forks) and the watershed is 25 square miles in area. One of many theories at the time was that he had traveled from San Diego Bay up Chollas Creek to Freeway ninety four - a route of 3.5 miles (5.6 km). Another sources states that the watershed is about 25.4 square miles (66 km2). A Metropolis of San Diego official later said that the rains that occurred on January 22 exceeded the design of the stormwater channels throughout the Chollas Creek watershed. In 2016, San Diego Fire-Rescue Division noted that Chollas Creek was in danger for flooding on account of El Niņo related storms.
